If you want to eat something with real punch on the streets of Paris, Sichuan food is your best bet.
While Sichuan cuisine is best known for its pungency from hot peppers, it can also have numbing flavors, plenty of umami, texture and smell. All of which I can find here in Paris.
It seems that Sichuan season has taken hold of the city and, even though spicy numbers may not always translate to authentic flavours, we can’t help but rave about the Sichuan noodles in paris that we’ve come across recently.
In the interest of well-rounded reporting, we’ve also included some standout dishes from each eatery.
Top 4 Sichuan Noodles in Paris
Sichuan cuisine is one of the eight major cuisines of China and comes from the southwestern province of Sichuan.
While many think of Sichuan cuisine as simply hot food containing chili peppers, the true flavors of Sichuan cuisine combine the numbing sensation of Sichuan peppercorns with the heat of chili peppers, engaging and persistently tingling and numbing.

The noodles from this place were amazing as they absorbed loads of the oil from the deep fried chili and peppercorns. Super crunchy from the peppercorns and spicy.
Paired with minched pork, a drizzle of hot chili oil and some tangy pickled vegetables it was really really good.
There is a good representation of Sichuan food in Paris with this restaurant and a few others among the best.
#1 Trois Fois Plus de Piment
A taste of fire on a plate? It’s been found at Trois Fois Plus de Piment in the 2nd arrondissement. There’s no holding back on the spice here.
Noodles can be ordered in 3 degrees of hot, and the mildest had plenty of heat.
The hand-pulled noodles have just the right firmness and texture - firm enough to not be mushy or doughy and silky enough to be indulgently wonderful.
Paired with the delicious beef noodle soup or their famous (best in the city) spicy wontons, this dish does not disappoint. For the braver try the flavour which lingers on the tongue.
#2 Ravioli du Sichuan
While not every amazing Sichuan dish includes noodles, at Ravioli du Sichuan the noodles and dumplings are equally beloved.
This restaurant serves a range of tiffins covered with their hot and fragrant sauce made with fresh chillies and filled with pork, shrimp or vegetable.
The noodles were silky with a nice chew to them and paired very well with the dumplings.
Ravioli du Sichuan filled pasta with spicy Sichuan hot pot ingredients and this is a truly original creation.
The flavors are well-balanced and you can taste the sesame, vinegar and mala flavors subtly behind the hot and spicy sensation. Very nice.
#3 Mala Town
A very casual Tokyo restaurant, Mala Town offers affordably priced noodles that taste exactly as they would on the streets of China.
Cold, spicy dan dan with sesame noodles also featured.
What really stood out with the noodles was that each type had a great texture and were cooked to a nice point where they had some chew left over, and the sauce was sufficiently sticky without being overly syrupy good.
Really easy to use and once you get used to it, you can increase the heat! But the standard setting is perfect for me!
#4 Atelier Mala Paris Pigalle
We recently dined at Atelier Mala Paris Pigalle, a small atelier style Chinese restaurant with a focus on Sichuan cuisine.
It's a great spot for a special occasion, as they treat your food with respect and present your Sichuan noodles as culinary art.
This small restaurant is a modern Parisian-style eatery that serves traditional Chinese cuisine. It's a great place for a delicious meal in a cool setting.
A standout was the Smiling Misanthrope specialty noodle dish which had a potent but balanced amount of heat leading the flavor profile, followed by a rich and nuanced mouthfeel from a combination of ground peppercorn, chili, and fermented bean paste.
I think you should try the noodle bowls (they look super cute on infeed and are delicious too)!
Tips for Enjoying Sichuan Noodles in Paris
While we did make some dishes pretty spicy, we also got some helpful tips along the way for how to make sure nothing is too hot.
Even though we have taken the heat out of this dish we still get loads of Sichuan peppery flavour.
Suggested to be paired with rice or another dish that is not too spicy for your taste. Experienced chilli heads can add their own heat if desired.

Don’t be afraid to try out our mala options as the flavor develops as you continue to eat it and will result in a entirely new flavor in the last bite.
My Final Words
We can thank Paris for introducing us to some of the world’s best Sichuan noodles. Hot spots like Trois Fois Plus de Piment and Atelier Mala Paris Pigalle dish out some of the city’s best noodle plates loaded with incredible aromas.
There’s more to Paris’ street food scene than greasy French patisserie, writes our author. Here, she devours a bowl of spicy Sichuan noodles in the French capital.
