Fitbit air does not have many features and if you are using this band for tracking your fitness, then you should read this article because if you want an ECG report then Fitbit air is not for you.
Well, why am I saying this? I am a big-time Fitbit tracker user and this is my third Fitbit watch. Previously I was using Fitbit Charge 6, so honestly, I can tell you everything, pros and cons of this band.

Does Fitbit Air Have ECG?
The short answer will be no. If you are wondering whether Fitbit air has ECG, then unfortunately not. But if you have used their previous version like the Fitbit Charge 6, then that device does have it.

So I would say that Fitbit air is a stripped down version of Fitbit Charge 6 and to be honest, they have actually removed a lot of the more advanced features from this tracker.
So in this device, we cannot measure ECG but yes, they have given an alternate option which is AFIB, which you can measure and this is the irregular heart rhythm detection.

What else is missing compared to a smartwatch?
If I have to say overall, then there are a lot of things which these bands are missing compared to a decent smartwatch and the most important things are checking time, date, getting a timer, ECG and a few other advanced features.

Is Fitbit Charge 6 a better deal than Fitbit air?
I think Fitbit Charge 6 is a great watch and the Fitbit air isn’t an upgraded version at all. In the used market you can get Fitbit Charge 6 for around $30 which also has the ECG option.
But yes, the Fitbit air pricing is way cheaper than even getting a used market Fitbit Charge 6, so anyone who is looking for a band just to track their steps and sleep, then this is good.

But apart from that, I would say getting a smartwatch would be much better. You can even look at the Samsung Watches. But again, yes, the thickness of this band is very less and it is more comfortable to track your sleeping data.
Will this change your buying decision?
Honestly, it depends on your purpose. Like if someone in your family has a serious known heart condition, then obviously you need ECG reading based, and for that, Fitbit Ace is not the right device, so you should look for other options such as Pixel Watch or Apple Watch instead.
But if you are someone who just wants it for passive monitoring, then the background AFib detection actually covers all the basic needs, that too without a manual reading option.
Conclusion
I would say if you want to track your ECG and get data from it, then you should go with another watch because Fitbit air doesn’t have an ECG option.
To be honest, the ECG option should have been given because this is the most common and most useful thing people look for in their fitness tracking band.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can Fitbit Air detect AFib?
Yes through passive background monitoring it is possible as it cannot read on-demand ECG.
Q2. Is background AFib detection is reliable as ECG?
In my opinion, it is good for ongoing passive monitoring, but for an on-demand ECG, it gives you a doctor reviewable reading, so they both serve for different purposes.
Q3. Which Fitbit or Google device has ECG?
All Pixel Watch models supports ECG, while Fitbit Air and Fitbit Charge 6 do not have On-Demand ECG.
